Players at the World Cup you would like to see at West Ham.
Realistic targets.

Amrabat from Morocco would be a good replacement for Rice.

Was at the Switzerland v Serbia game and liked the look of Embolo, to eventually replace Antonio.

Ecuador's left back and also Caidedo in midfield would be improvements but they both play for Brighton already. In fact I saw a story saying we're in for Caicedo but Man Utd and Newcastle are as well. We're not outbidding either of those two.

I’m sure we’d struggle to convince them to mug Brighton off let alone the other 2

Every time there is a tournament there are players that look good but would be a disaster in West Hams team. Even Enner Valencia looked good and he had plenty of time to shine. I've not been impressed by anyone that isn't already out of our price range or acknowledged as a top player already at a big club.

There was some bloke playing for Croatia that looked half decent, took a good pen. Can’t remember his name

Caicedo Is a great player. Nearest to Kante I have seen. Rice money, if not already spent ( factored into cash flows and borrowing last summer ), should be used to get him but if United or another rich 5 club are interested no chance. Of course, this assumes we are even in the Premiership which is not a guarantee currently.

Amrabat had a blinder vs Spain but then you can't buy from one game. It's easier to look dynamic vs a pedestrian Spain than in the PL.

You're right, he was Argentinian born and played for Mexico, tidy player, but came from the Spanish league.

we had a mexican guy called Franco i think back in the heady days of the biscuit barons. Remember him looking quite decent but he didn't stay long

Great point! I expect there are a lot of shenanigans with players from all over the place outside Europe. no doubt some leagues or countries are a bit more 'welcoming' with their visa or work permit restrictions.

At one point at least, it was also easier to get work permits in some other European countries.

The weirdness of us signing Doneil Henry through a Cyprus club - without him ever playing for them - was one example.

Yup very true! It's probably a decent business model for them to sort the wheat from the chaff and then whoever turns out to be good, they sell on to a bigger league for a lot of money and no doubt the SA club gets a nice kickback as well! Suppose even the average to 'poor' players can find a home in the Dutch, Belgian or Scandi leagues so everyone is a winner.

It would be great to get in there one step earlier and get some bargains- I guess that's what most of Sullivan's cheap punts were- but I guess you'd be wasting so much time and money if 90% of them aren't up to it.

You're right, of course if you wait until they've proved themselves in Europe the price will be massively hiked.

So the best of a bad bunch then was Margas because he dyed his hair claret that time

Do a lot of south American players in general come straight to England from there? I've no idea if this is true but it feels a lot of them, especially the more successful ones go to the Dutch or French leagues first and sink or swim there before being picked up or not by a prem side.

Could be total bollocks though
